نویسندگان
چکیده
We present the rotation curves of 967 spiral galaxies, obtained by deprojecting and folding the raw Hα data published by Mathewson et al.(1992). Of these, 80 meet objective excellence criteria and are suitable for individual detailed mass modelling, while 820 are suitable for statistical studies. A preliminary analysis of their properties confirms that rotation curves are a universal function of luminosity and that the dark matter fraction in spirals increases with decreasing luminosity.

We present MOND analysis for several of the lowest mass disc galaxies currently amenable to such analysis–with (baryonic) masses below 4 · 108M⊙. The agreement is good, extending the validity of MOND and its predicted mass velocity relation, to such low masses. Subject headings: dark matter galaxies: kinematics and dynamics

A simple model for the dust media describing evolution of the system like spiral galaxy is considered. In contrast to previous considerations we show that the initial density fold should be quasi-one-dimensional (bar-like) instead of disc-like. The disc component of the galaxies appears only during the evolution. The model naturally reproduces some essential features of the galaxies. In particu...

We suggest the radii and luminosities of the X-ray emitting halos of elliptical galaxies define a fundamental plane with the star velocity dispersions, as for the corresponding optical observables. Since the X-ray emitting material usually is at larger radius than the stars this can be interpreted as additional evidence for a relation between the space distributions of stellar and dark mass, in...

Recent work on the mass distribution in spiral galaxies, using mainly HI observations, is reviewed. The principal problem is still to determine to what extent the dark matter is important in the inner parts of a galaxy, or in other words, how dominant is the self-gravitation of the disc. Studies of the shapes of rotation curves show that in detail there is sufficient individuality in spiral gal...

Several lines of evidence suggest that some of the dark matter may be nonbaryonic: the non-detection of various plausible baryonic candidates for dark matter inferred, e.g., from galaxy rotation curves and from cluster of galaxy velocity dispersions, the need for non-baryonic dark matter for theoretical models of galaxy formation, and the large discrepancy between dynamical measurements implyin...
